Where ships dock

Cruise ships call at the cruise pavilion on Sydney’s downtown waterfront. Check your cruise line’s port information for your ship’s exact berth, especially on days when more than one ship is in port.

Within walking distance

  • The waterfront boardwalk and the giant fiddle beside the cruise pavilion
  • Charlotte Street downtown, for shops and cafés
  • The historic North End, including St. Patrick’s Church Museum and Cossit House

Going further: what fits a port day

Approximate one-way driving times from the waterfront help set expectations:

  • Fortress of Louisbourg: about 40 minutes
  • Baddeck and the Bras d’Or Lake: about an hour
  • Highland Village in Iona: an hour or a little more
  • Cabot Trail: an hour to reach it, then a long scenic drive. Suited to the longest port days only

Private or ship-organised excursion?

Ship-organised excursions handle timing for you, and the ship waits if the tour runs late. A private excursion offers a smaller group and your own pace. In return, getting back on time is a shared responsibility, so choose an operator who plans around your all-aboard time.

Tips for the day

  • Note your all-aboard time. It is usually well before the ship’s departure time.
  • Carry your ship card and photo ID.
  • Bring a layer: harbour breezes can be cool, even in summer.
  • Canadian dollars are used locally, and cards are widely accepted.
  • Autumn is Sydney’s busiest cruise season, so book private excursions early.
